The color combinations of this Lori kilim display principles of Qashqai designs; however rhombus shaped medallions and their stepped boundary lines are certainly significant elements of Lori kilims. While Lors have not adopted all their designs from Qashqai handwoven arts, Qashqais were under the influence of Lor tribes. Their designs are quite different from other Turkish kilims. Their flatweaves are much coarser and are spun rather loose yet seem thicker. Lors tribal groups have lived in their native lands for 3,000 years and are recognized as native Iranian people. While we have limited information about their history, we do have evidence of an extensive history in hand weavings, particularly kilim weaving.
